Hi, I'm Lisa.
I am a personal trainer and fitness educator.
I help older adults stay active and move well in later life.
I am a trainer at Gateway Life Gym, an inclusive seniors gym in Wollongong. I run group classes on strength, low-impact resistance, and balance training.
My mission is to empower older adults to live their best lives through fitness, helping them maintain independence, good health, and a high quality of life.
The most fulfilling part of my work is helping clients achieve meaningful personal milestones—whether getting into the pool, playing on the floor with grandchildren, or simply keeping up with the demands of daily life.
Why exercise matters for older adults
Regular exercise helps you stay strong, resilient, and ready for all the adventures life has to offer.
‣ Building and maintaining strength: Resistance training helps prevent age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia). We need muscular strength for everyday tasks like carrying groceries, climbing stairs, and gardening.
‣ Improving balance and reducing falls: Our balance deteriorates as we age. Balance exercises enhance stability and coordination, significantly lowering the risk of falls, a leading cause of injuries among older adults.
‣ Supporting functional fitness: Functional fitness focuses on movements that mirror real-life activities, making day-to-day tasks easier and more enjoyable.
‣ Promoting healthy ageing: Regular exercise supports cardiovascular health, joint mobility, and bone density while boosting energy levels and mental wellbeing.
